What swales are, how they work and why it’s important to keep water on your property?
This is a good example of how we can design to maximise the energy on our properties. Yes water is energy. Well to be more exact in this case we are using water as a metaphor for energy as we think of it in terms of electricity. But in reality water can be considered energy. It moves, it provides plants with what they need to grow and it can change and erode landscapes.
So who do we replace swales in a micro grid situation? Well a solar panel can be considered a swale, using energy efficiently is also a way of keeping it on our properties for longer. One of my suggestions to new prepper’s is “work on getting insulation sorted and to audit energy use” long before they think of solar and generators. I’ll talk about energy audits in a later post.
